Adult Summer Reading Programs

“Adventure Begins at Your Library”

From June 13th until August 7, the South Park Library invites you to join us for some “adventures” in this year’s summer reading programs.  For every adult audio/book that you read or program that you attend, you will be given a ticket to fill out for a chance to win gift cards to help you plan an adventure. This prize is for adults only.  The prize drawing will take place on Thursday, August 8th. In addition to the random prize drawing, we will now give a gift card prize to whomever fills out the most tickets!

“Ten Books and the Women Who Wrote Them”

Wednesday, June 26 at 6:30 pm in the Community Center

In connection with the Heinz History Center’s newest exhibition, “A Woman’s Place, How Women Shaped Pittsburgh,” Senior Curator Leslie Przybylek will be here to talk about ten books written by Western Pennsylvania women and why they matter. Why is it important that we write stories down, that we record history being made? What different approaches have women taken? The talk will include works by well-known local authors such as Nellie Bly, Rachel Carson, and Ida Tarbell, to name just a few. But some of the works selected, as well as some of the authors featured, might just surprise you.
