Carrie Furnaces Industrial Tour & Lunch at Asti’s Italian Steak House

Friday, May 3rd – Bus leaves at 9:15am

Towering 92 feet over the Monongahela River, constructed of 2.5″ thick steel plate and lined with refractory brick, Carrie Furnaces #6 and #7 are extremely rare examples of pre-World War II iron-making technology. Since the collapse of the region’s big steel industry in the 1970s and 1980s, these are the only non-operative blast furnaces in the region that remain. Today, visitors can experience this landmark site. Connect with Pittsburgh’s steel industry heritage on this guided tour of the Carrie Blast Furnaces National Historic Landmark. The Industrial Tour highlights the site’s iron-making technology, its workers, and their culture.

Because of steps and uneven ground, you must wear sneakers or boots. Hard hats are also a requirement, and they will be provided. This is a 5 sneaker trip meaning it is moderate walking conditions. This is a 2-hour tour. We will then enjoy a beautiful view while having lunch at Asti’s Italian Steakhouse in North Braddock.

Sign-ups begin Wednesday, April 3rd at 10:00 am either in person or by phone (412-833-5585). The cost is $65 per person. Space is limited and payment is due Thursday, April 25th. If the trip sells out, please get on the wait list! There are always cancellations.
