Join us for a buggy adventure!
Welcome to the world of Entomology! Become an entomologist for the day and perhaps, love bugs for the rest of your life! This Live Insect Program features a collection of exotic and local insects and arachnids of the Animalia kingdom. Enjoy viewing my insects and arachnids close-up as I walk the attendees through sharing fun and interesting facts about each specific species. Learn the characteristics of what makes something an insect and/or arachnid. Participate in a fun activity as a review of the body parts of insects. Madagascar Hissing cockroaches are the perfect species to identify what each of these body parts look like and where they are located. Check out the U.S.'s blue death feigning beetle as it uses its only defense, rolling over and playing dead and know that it is available to hold at the end of the program, if you choose!! Meet the World's largest known cockroach, the giant cave dweller cockroach and learn more about why they were misidentified as bats for years. Curly haired tarantulas and Zebra striped kneed tarantulas are cool to watch as they creep along the floor showing off their elegance and often take off and show you how quick they move! A young Asian Forest scorpion can be compared to the larger adult one. These scorpions love to capture your attention posing with their pedipalps up and forward in grasping position. They position their narrow-segmented tail (abdomen) curved up over their back with their telson to form what I often refer to them as their backhoe bucket action, preparing for action, if needed. Other featured insects may include the Hercules beetle grub, Dubai cockroaches. etc. Also, learn about diseases that specific insects carry ...and more!
